History

Here's some background information on Aurangabad. Malik Amber built and constructed this town, formerly named Khadki, in 1610. It was seized by the Mughals when Malik Ambar died. When Aurangzeb was Viceroy of the Deccan at the time, the city was called Aurangabad. During the Maratha-Mughal conflict, the Marathas held the city for eight years before it was taken over as a protectorate of the British East India Company by the Nizam of Hyderabad.
